Duties of the Management Information Systems Office Director
- Design, implement and maintain an operational database information system needed for policy formulation, budgeting, and decision making;
- Ensure efficient collection of data and generation of reports
- Lead IT strategic and operational planning to achieve university goals by fostering innovation, prioritising IT initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future IT systems across the organisation.
- Act as an advocate for the organisation's IT vision via regular written and in-person communications with the organisation's executives, department heads, and end users.
- Identify opportunities for the appropriate and cost-effective investment of financial resources in IT systems and assets/resources, including but not limited to staffing, sourcing, purchasing, and in-house development.
- Ensure continuous delivery of IT services through oversight of service level agreements with end users and monitoring of IT systems performance.
- Ensure IT system operation adheres to the university IT Policy and other applicable laws and regulations.
Duties of the Software Unit
- Develops various systems/programs for the different offices of the University
- Helps in the maintenance and improvement of existing programs of the University.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned by the Director.
- Convert projects specifications and statements of problems and procedures to detailed logical flow charts for coding into computer language.
- Develops and writes computer programs to store, locate and retrieve specific documents, data, and information and program websites.
Duties of Hardware Unit
- Sets-up and installs personal / server computers and peripherals.
- Performs corrective and preventive maintenance on the different computers and peripherals of the university.
- Sets-up and configure network installations following specifications of a network design approved by the network administrator.
- Provides assistance in the implementation of developed information system concerning technical aspects of the installation.
- Trains the end users in system operations as well as in basic computer system set-up and operations.
- Repairs serviceable IT equipment.
- Maintains internet and networking connection.
- Installs and fix software applications like but not limited to: Windows, Visual Basic, Microsoft Office and other programs.
- Assists the students during laboratory
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of all computer units inside the internet laboratory.
- Prepares weekly report regarding computer malfunction
- Assists in the inspection of computers.
- Maintains the function of Laboratory clerk with the function of Computer Laboratory Technician.
Duties of Network Unit
- Administer and manage the organisation's local area network
- Setup the organisation's network system
- Interconnect users
- Secure the network from unwanted and unauthorised users
- Troubleshoot network problems
- Administer the daily operation of the network system
- Plan and recommend periodic upgrades and improvements
- Maintains internet and networking connection.
- Install, configure and maintain information system
- Troubleshoot common system error
- Setup back-up and recovery procedures
- Formulate problem-handling processes
